8a.m-M'night sign single yellow line - towed away

Hi there am new to this website and would appreciate advise in my case. My car was parked in my street and towed away at 9a.m - due the fact I forgot where I parked! on a single yellow line with 8a.m. to m'night on the sign - I have been told I could protest and try and claim back the £250 I had to pay to get my car back. I have been told that I can claim that the signage is not valid because it uses the term m'night. Is this correct? I have already appealed to the council stating this and am waitng to hear back from them. I would appreciate any advise in persuing this as I am mad that they towed it away!! Many thanks

im afraid there is provision to use the abreviation m'night you can find it here

S 12.8 of Traffic Signs Manual ch 7

12.8 12 noon and 12 midnight should be expressed
as “Noon” (or “Midday”) and “Midnight” (or
“M’night”) respectively. Where a time period spans
midnight, it should be expressed as two separate time
periods, the first commencing at midnight and the
second ending at midnight, unless the same time
period applies on every day of the week.

ask for the traffic order for that stree and see what turns up
