Vehicle tracker bought by bus company

Vehicle tracking technology developed by a Wearside company will be used by one of Europe's biggest transport firms.
FleetM8 has landed a contract with Sunderland-based Arriva, which operates in 12 European countries.
The tracking technology will be used on the company's bus fleets in Scotland, allowing it to immediately spot when vehicles end up "crowding" by getting too close together.

Council avoids repaying fortune in parking fees

MOTORISTS have been slow to reclaim money paid to a Devon council which is believed to have been issuing invalid parking tickets.
A freedom of information request has shown that no one has yet come forward to claim a refund from Teignbridge District Council for Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) that were issued between May 2008 and August 23 this year when a credit card surcharge was in place.

The 24-hour practice is particularly prevalent in London, with councils such as Ealing operating wardens throughout the night, but it is also spreading across the country.

'Big brother' plan to spot-check and tow cars owing more than three fines

Legally parked vehicles could be towed away as traffic wardens in London are to do spot checks, hunting for vehicles with a backlog of unpaid tickets.
Drivers who owe for more than three parking tickets or traffic fines risk having their cars impounded under the pilot, which starts on 4 January. A database of vehicles with unpaid fines is being created. Drivers whose cars are towed could end have to pay more than £500 to retrieve them.

'Human Ticket Machine': Traffic warden on course to hand out record-breaking 2,000 tickets in his first year on the job

Britain's most prolific traffic warden was unmasked yesterday - a Yellow Peril who has dished out over 400 tickets in his first two months on the job.
Geoffrey Stobbart, 53, dubbed the 'Human Ticket Machine' by locals, has issued 416 £70 tickets in Kettering, Northamptonshire, between August and October.

Hospital parking fines challenged

Parking fines totalling thousands of pounds issued to drivers at a Devon hospital are being challenged. 
Parking Appeals Limited has complained about the fines at the Royal Devon and Exeter (RD&E) Hospital. It is also questioning staff permit charges.
If proven, it could lead to nearly £180,000 being reclaimed by motorists who have paid fines.

St Albans District Council to release decision on tribunal results

St Albans and Harpenden Review
A DAMNING report which uncovered a flaw in St Albans District Council's parking enforcement is still being considered. 
The Review revealed last week how a tribunal into one man's appeal over a £50 fine brought to light an admin error. 
The consequences of the mistake in the Traffic Regulation Order are that penalties issued by the district council in all of its 16 off-street car parks since 2008 are invalid.
