The story that 3,746 may have been illegally issued to drivers outside Tottenham bus station (Journal, April 3) sums up all that is wrong with Haringey Council. The Labour administration botched the initial installation of a box junction, making the restrictions unenforceable.
This characteristic incompetence has been followed up by Labour's all too familiar secrecy. The fact that Councillor Stanton has had to resort to a Freedom of Information request in order to get to a response on this issue from Councillor Haley, a member of his own party, indicates how difficult it is for the rest of us to get a coherent answer from the council.
Unfortunately for the residents and visitors to Haringey, this is not an isolated case. Parking signs have recently had to be changed in Muswell Hill and Crouch End after it was revealed that they also failed to comply with Department for Transport regulations. - Councillor Martin Newton, Haringey Liberal Democrat spokesman on transport and highways. |
